ABERDEEN INVITES CHOIRS FROM AREA HOUSES OF WORSHIP TO TAKE PART IN 150TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION’S “CHOIR FEST”

ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP (3/9/07) – Aberdeen Township is inviting choirs from area houses of worship to participate in Choir Fest, one in a series of “Aberdeen Celebrates” events marking the Township’s 150th Anniversary.

        The event, which will be held on Sunday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m., will be hosted by Temple Shalom, 5 Ayrmont Lane, Aberdeen.  Participating choirs will be asked to perform one or two songs.  Choirs interested in taking part can contact Stuart Brown, Township Manager, (732) 583-4200, ext. 118, by March 30.

        “We look forward to showcasing the talented choirs of the houses of worship which represent the diverse fabric of Aberdeen Township,” said Deputy Mayor Wilhelmina Gumbs. “It should be an entertaining evening for attendees and participants alike.”

         Choir Fest – which was conceived by Councilman Joseph Raymond -- will cap a day filled with fun and celebration.  Earlier in the day, residents are invited to the municipality’s birthday party at Aberdeen Town Hall, beginning at 2:00 p.m. The “Birthday Bash” will feature an open house, scavenger hunt and other activities for children, giveaways, video clips of township memories, birthday cake, announcement of the essay contest winners, all leading up to Choir Fest that evening.   

        Throughout 2007, Aberdeen Township will celebrate its 150th Anniversary with a series of events, including concerts in the park, movie nights, Aberdeen Day and a 5K Run.
