New Domestic Violence Response Team: Aberdeen Police Seek Volunteers
The Township of Aberdeen Police Department, in collaboration with 180-Turning Lives Around, is currently recruiting volunteers for the new Northern Regional Domestic Violence Response Team. The volunteers will work in conjunction with the police to provide support, information, referrals, and safety plan to victims at their time of crisis. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, have access to transportation, possess a valid driver’s license, be willing to serve on an on-call shift basis, and submit to background investigations and fingerprinting. A 40-hour mandatory intensive training course, to be held over a four week period, during the evening, is required and will be provided to successful applicants. Training begins in the Fall and will be held in room 8 at the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District administrative building on Crest Way in Aberdeen. Prior knowledge of domestic violence is not required. The Township of Aberdeen Police Department and 180-Turning Lives Around are committed to a culturally diverse team to better serve the community, therefore bi-lingual capability is a plus. To request an application or for further information, please contact Deputy Chief Richard Derechailo at 732-583-4200 ext. 220. Applications may be downloaded from the police department web page and click on “police forms”.
